BGI Fit Teens

These classes are designed especially for teens ages 13-15 who are, or are interested in becoming high school athletes. Based on USAW guidelines, we incorporate pushing, pulling and lifting weights, including their own bodies, into a conditioning program that will maintain or exceed the teens current conditioning level. Adjustments are made to accommodate the specific needs and requirements of teen athletics.

Each session includes a warm-up, skill instruction and workout to reinforce newly learned skills. All teens are welcome, regardless of their current fitness or activity level. Teens do not need to be in any sport program to participate. Our goal is to foster an appreciation for exercise and sportsmanship in a fun, non-intimidating environment. Attention is paid to utilizing progressions for difficult or compound movements, and progressive intensity is dictated by size, age, specific sport and consist demonstration of proper form.

Using the above template, BGI Teens often perform workouts with a time component, moving quickly from one exercise to the next. This helps the athlete to develop cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, speed, and stamina. More skilled body weight movements such as chin-ups, push-ups, and squats are incorporated to positively impact the body’s capacity for exercise and gain accuracy, agility, balance, and coordination. Once proper form is achieved using the child’s own body, externals loads (from plastic pipes to actual weighted materials) are introduced to create the intensity necessary to achieve power and strength capacity.
